Sun Gold Conures
The video is of Kona, a Sun Gold Conure, the pal of Lisa C and her husband. Kona has breakfast with them every morning. This is what Lisa has to say about Kona's and her routine:
"I find the best time to teach him is in the morning and it really helps when I have his favorite treats.
His favorite foods seem to change. When we first got him he really liked kale. Though, not interested in kale anymore.
Now he's really liking green beans and oranges are his favorite fruit. When I first introduced it to him he would just lick it (so cute).
He goes nuts over corn. Just makes a mess when he is eating it. It gets all over his beak and the counter.
He's much more of a veggie bird. Not too much into fruit.
He loves to eat breakfast with us. Especially when we have toast & eggs. He tries to take the food from our plates.
He like's to open up and get out the peanut from the shell. Though, doesn't eat the peanut.
He just love's walnuts, and sunflower seeds in the shell. This is what I use to train him with.
I made an 6 minute video of myself saying "good morning". I play the video every morning and sometimes when he goes to bed.
He is just starting to say "good morning".
I try to work with him every day. Sometime only for 5 minutes. Sometimes longer. Doing different tricks. He seems to love his play time with us.
At the end of each training I have him either wave or do a couple of turns. I always end a training session with something he knows well.
He has a birdie basketball hoop, colored ring toss game, a slide (my father-in-law made this and it's too narrow so Kona's walks down the side of it instead of sliding."
Thank you for letting me share your experience, Lisa.
